Sweetface Cakes Wedding: Lauren & John

Todays’ cakes are from the wedding of Lauren & John.

I met with Lauren and her mom, Alice, at Wedding 101 a few months ago to discuss the cakes for Lauren’s wedding.  Lauren wanted something simple and classic, so she asked for a four tiered cake with a quilted effect. She wanted real flowers, so the florist left a gorgeous cake topper and some lilies, roses, calla lilies and various other greenery for me to place around the cake.  Lauren chose alternating tiers of red velvet cake and white chocolate raspberry cake, both with cream cheese filling.

For the groom’s cake groom, Lauren wanted to do something special.  He’s a big Chicago Cubs fan, so I made a 10″ round coconut cake with chocolate buttercream filling and chocolate ganache icing, covered it in royal blue fondant and decorated it with a Cub’s logo on the sides. I made the custom gum paste topper to look like the Wrigley Field sign, with the message: “9 Years In The Making:  Lauren and John.”

The wedding and reception were held at the Factory in Franklin.  It was gorgeous!

Peace, love & cake!

Happy Independence Day!!!

Here’s a lovely wedding cake that I delivered to the Temple Hills Country Club in Franklin, TN this past Saturday.

Britney’s mom and I used to go to the same church quite a few years ago (her daughter was just a young ‘un), and we sang on the worship team together.  Earlier this year, they happened to visit Wedding 101 at The Factory In Franklin, where I was holding cake tastings.  She came up to me and recognized me and we started chatting.

They hired me to make Britney’s wedding cake, which consisted of four stacked square cakes, in alternating flavors of vanilla with Swiss meringue buttercream filling and chocolate-espresso with cream cheese filling.  The cake was covered in white fondant and decorated with a pearlized monogram, piping and royal purple sating ribbon at the borders, with the bottom cake having a rhinestone brooch and bow.  The bride requested that the cake be presented in a spiral configuration, which gives it some upward movement.

I’m really proud of how this turned out.  It’s a classic, romantic wedding cake perfect for any wedding.

Peace, love & cake!

Sweetface Cakes Wedding Cake: Swiss Dots

This is the Amanda cake.  Named for the bride, this cake is a four tiered cake in ivory fondant with piped Swiss dots and piped pearl borders.  I added a piped pearl line down the back of the cake to simulate the pearl buttons on the back of a wedding dress.

The 14″ round was amaretto cake with a Swiss meringue buttercream filling, the 12″ round was vanilla with a strawberry buttercream, the 8″ round was a white chocolate raspberry cake with white chocolate mousse and fresh raspberries, and the 6″ round was a strawberry cake with cream cheese filling.

The reception was held at Aerial in downtown Nashville, TN.  I love the Nashville skyline shots that my husband took! There was a cake topper made by the sister of the bride, but it was not available at the time of delivery.  I hope to get some pictures of it soon!

Peace, love & cake.

Sweetface Cakes: St. Louis Cake

Ready for it?  Here she is!:

This was a groom’s cake that I delivered this past weekend.  It was a gift to the groom from his bride and I designed this cake to represent the groom’s hobbies – running and playing the harmonica & guitar – and his love for all things St. Louis.

The top and bottom tiers are red velvet cake with cream cheese icing and the middle layer was chocolate-espresso cake with Swiss meringue buttercream and peanut butter-chocolate ganache.  The cake was covered in white fondant, airbrushed and hand-painted, using gum paste to create the Arch and city-scape and the decorative circles, as well as the St. Louis Cardinals baseball cap and the harmonica and guitar.

I’m super-proud of this cake and can’t wait to have someone ask me to do something like it again!

Peace, love & cake.

Sweetface Cakes: Blossoms on the Breeze Wedding Cake

14 06 2011

Hello all!

I’ve been sketching and creating new display cakes for my new office space and here’s one of the first ones…

It’s a four tiered cake with ivory fondant, fondant blossoms, a pearlized monogram and piping.  It was designed to have the effect of blossoms ‘falling on the breeze.’  The ribbon can be changed to reflect the wedding design scheme.

I think it is very classic and romantic.  Let me know what you think!

Peace, love & cake.

Sweetface Parisian Birthday Cake

Bonjour!

This cake was made for Caroline’s birthday party today.

I was asked by Ashley Hicks over at Wedding 101 to make this cake for her daughter’s birthday.  Caroline is very much into all things French, so French poodles and the Eiffel Tower had to be included!

Vanilla cake with buttercream, covered in hot pink, quilted and pearlized fondant and decorated with royal icing flooded French poodles and a three-sided gum paste topper with royal icing flooded Eiffel Towers with just a touch of edible glitter. The border and birthday wishes on the board were piped with white, pearlized royal icing.

Bon anniversaire, Caroline et fait des heureux.

Peace, love & cake!

Sweetface Cakes: Stella & Dot Cake

24 05 2011

Ashley Hicks from Wedding 101 at The Factory in Franklin asked me to make a cake for her Stella & Dot trunk show last week.  She gave me a pattern that S&D uses on their packaging, which I translated to a royal icing pattern on a pink lemonade cake with buttercream filling and icing, covered in a teal blue fondant cake and a hand-painted S&D plaque on top.

I love this cake and think I might make a display cake with this pattern – it’s so dramatic!

Peace, love & cake!

Blogged: Sweetface Cakes on Rock N’ Roll Bride

Cool news:  Sweetface Cakes was published in a photoshoot featured on Rock N’ Roll Bride!

Here’s the link: http://www.rocknrollbride.com/2011/05/a-nashville-rockstar-styled-shoot/

Kate Coppola contacted me, along with some other very talented vendors over at Wedding 101, to take part in a styled shoot inspired by a guitar-pick bouquet made by Sarah over at Flowers That Rock, to create an homage to rockstars everywhere!  We were given a color range – pink, turquoise, black & white – as well as some vintage/animal print inspiration to go with.  The result is a gorgeous, bright, whimsical and ROCKIN’ wedding inspiration board.

The cake I designed was inspired by a guitar that Lucinda Williams was pictured with on the cover of a musician’s mag:

It had an etched steel rose look to it, which I tried to replicate using a rose stencil and airbrushing edible silver paint on top of black fondant.

The rest of the cake was vintage-inspired, using a lace mold to make fondant “lace,” gum paste pearls and brooches, and a hand-painted tattoo-inspired “pendant,” using edible silver dragees and a piped and silver luster dust-painted chain.

I enjoyed meeting all of the wonderful vendors and being a part of something so fun, as well as being given the opportunity to show my ability to be creative in design and interpretation with cake!

Sweetface Cakes Wedding: Lori & Brett

Congratulations to Lori & Brett!

Lori and Brett came to see me at Wedding 101 earlier this year to talk about their wedding cake.  They needed someone who could make a custom cake – and they needed it to be gluten-free.

Now, gluten-free is not easy to do.  Gluten-free means that there can be no wheat flour or ingredients that contain caseins.  And gluten-free cakes can sometimes taste quite grainy, which is not what people are usually looking for in a wedding cake!

I can make yummy gluten-free and vegan cakes, so I made them a gluten-free coconut cake and they loved it!  They decided on three flavors:  coconut with buttercream, chocolate-espresso with caramel cream cheese and red velvet with cream cheese.  We designed their wedding cake based on the decor for their reception, which was black & white damask with touches of green mixed in.  Their wedding and reception was held at The Governor’s Club in Brentwood, which is one of the loveliest places I’ve ever been to!

I received a lovely email from Lori this morning:

“Thank you times a million. You went above and beyond and it was noticed and appreciated. I am so proud that we found you to make our cake. It was so stunning. Everyone loved it and it got so many compliments. I will be sure to brag about you and the cake to everyone! And thanks for the larger cake. I was actually thinking last night when I saw it that it was bigger than we planned. It makes me tear up thinking about the cake because it was so important. Oh and the fondant was good! It was way better than I expected. Again, thank you!”

And that’s why I do this.

Peace, love & cake, y’all!

Aynslee’s 1st Birthday Cake

Today is Aynslee’s first birthday!

I received an email from Krista Bright this past week, asking me if I would be able to make her daughter’s first birthday cake which, of course, I said I’d LOVE to do!

The theme is Abby Cadabby, but we went with the colors, rather than the actual character.  The cake was vanilla with raspberries and Swiss meringue buttercream filling and iced in the buttercream.  It is covered in bright pink fondant, with purple and teal stripes and fondant beads at the border.  The topper and Aynslee’s name are made from gum paste, with some edible glitter accents.  I also made a little smash cake for Aynslee, which is a petal shape and covered in the same fondant, with some colored fondant elements.

Happy 1st Birthday, Aynslee!  I hope it’s a wonderful one!

Peace, love & cake.
